One of the questions that is often on people’s minds is ‘if counselling can help me?’
Maybe you have already tried self-help and listened to advice that worked for other people. Yet, something may make you keep going back to the same place that you want to leave behind. When we have experienced trauma, it is as if our brain gets stuck at a certain vulnerable place, sometimes we may not even be conscious of how much that experience shapes our present-day reality.
Counselling can helpa person to gain insight and awareness. It can help take charge of your feelings, overcome obstacles and move forward in life.
Whether there is a relationship concern, a job related issue, addictive behaviors or difficult life circumstances, counselling can help make sense of a situation and gain a measure of relief, control and insight. Therapy can also help with deep emotional processing of old trauma, so that it no longer controls how you feel.
I am a person centred therapist who keeps the client’s experience and perspective at the centre of the therapeutic relationship. From here the treatment plan may included a variety of interventions. Therapeutic modalities that I use include Trauma informed, mindfulness, cognitive behavior therapy, Gestalt and emotionally focused therapy in addition to hypnotherapy. There could be homework to do as the client processes and creates change. Career and relationships are major areas where a holistic counselling approach can create change and healing.
Whether you want to heal from a break up or find the courage to trust yourself or life again, trauma informed counselling can help you release some of the stuck feelings. Whether you’d like to stop waking up stressed in the wee hours of the morning. Or perhaps you’d like to stop panic attacks. Maybe the hardest thing is to stop thinking about a loved one who has passed. Maybe the doctors can’t find anything wrong with your body, but you feel there is something wrong. In all of these ways, trauma and stress can reduce the quality of our life. Another issue that affects us all is the big question about our life purpose, why are we here and our career.
In addition to personal sessions, HHA offers education around mental health, emotional awareness and holistic mind-body healing to help clients find the tools that they need for learning and growth.
