In recent decade, several studies on mindfulness have been done that show that structural brain changes occur because of mindfulness. New brain cells form and there are changes in the neural networks. When compassion centres of the brain develop, it helps with mood regulation and reduce the tendency of a person to take things personally. Unresolved trauma perhaps is the single biggest reason for conflict in relationships, because people act with aggression or shut down because they perceive wrongly pershaps that they are under threat of attack (unsafe). Since our body is hard wired to behave with fight or flight, it has great implications for how our lifestyle behaviors can enhance or reduce stress.
In other words, Neuroscience not only Tells us that calmness and empathy is essential for all aspects of our life, but that we need to dedicate time and effort to live a self-aware lifestyle.
